It is a wonderful feeling to know that you have to search a groom for your little sis. The preparations and follow ups are no short of the walk in interviews of call centres. Probably the reflection of the not so good sex ratio..and guys eager to get married early you never know who will be the ones left out in the race.
The preparations..
Asking relatives, distant, not so distant, and close ones to see if they can find a suitable match for the lovely lady. Calling them up,(even if you had not called them up in the last decade), following them up, unwillingly talking to them sweetly (it taught me to be diplomatic, atleast).
Secondly, newspaper advertisements, following them, attending to them politely never know who might just be the one to land up as your new born yet fully grown up relative.
The question:
Q: is dowry abolished?
A: is dowry abolished ?
Yes that is the big problem, the mindset has not yet changed, if not for all atleast for many people. It might differ from place to place, people to people , community to community…but it is still prevalent at some rather many places and sections of the society.
It is highly irritating when people even before asking the qualifications of the girl, ask “JI AAPKA BUDGET KYA HAI” . Thanks to the fact that it was me who handled all the calls, and even greater to have parents that think similar yet keep in mind the social and society created and nurtured customs. The people to take up such discussions first were given a very warm farewell without hurting them for the fact that we can not and don’t and would not bid for boys. That’s where you realize that still it’s a huge selling market “ mandi” as it is said in hindi, where the highest bidder (buyer) gets the stock. The only difference being the bidder bids not to buy but to sell, let go off a very sweet and dear part of himself.
I might be wrong but I still feel if that’s the way, atleast the little cute lady of your household will not be as happy. Had the grooms family decided on her because of her qualifications, behaviour, personality she would be respected , accepted and taken care of. I don’t dream or propose a revolution, few things are left to individuals, hope the number of these individuals will rise in the future.
“Main toh akela hi chala tha manzil ki aur, log aate gaye karvan banta gaya”
PS: there could be errors in the last line sorry for that.
